WordPress vs Custom Website Development: How to Decide
Both routes can give you a fast, good-looking site. They suit different needs.
Choose WordPress when
- Your team wants to edit pages, posts and products without a developer.
- You need a blog, a catalogue or a WooCommerce store.
- You want a large pool of plugins and developers to draw on.
Keep plugins to what you need. Too many plugins make a site slow and harder to secure.
Choose a custom build when
- You need features that do not fit a plugin, such as a custom dashboard or workflow.
- Speed is a top priority and you want minimal code on every page.
- The product will grow into a web app.
Modern frameworks such as Astro and React can produce very fast pages. The cost is that content changes may need a developer or a separate editing tool.
A simple rule
If content changes often and by non-technical staff, start with WordPress. If the site is a product or needs custom logic, build custom.
