How to Choose a Web Design Company: 8 Questions to Ask

Choosing a web design company is easier when you know what to ask. Use these eight questions.

1. Can I see live work?

Open their portfolio sites on your phone. Check that they load quickly and read clearly. Screenshots can hide a slow site.

2. Who will do the work?

Ask who designs, who develops and who you will talk to. A small team with one clear contact often beats a large agency that hands you between departments.

3. Will I get a written scope and quote?

A scope lists pages, features, revisions and what is not included. A quote without a scope invites disputes later.

4. How do you plan the pages?

A good company starts from your goal and from what your customers search for, then decides the pages. Ask how they do keyword research.

5. What happens on the technical side?

Ask about page speed, mobile layout, page titles and descriptions, structured data and your sitemap. These are basics, not extras.

6. Do I own the site and the content?

You should own the code, design files, domain and content when the project is paid for. Get this in writing.

7. What happens after launch?

Ask about fixes, updates and support, and what each costs.

8. What do you promise about rankings?

Walk away from anyone who guarantees a Google position. Nobody outside the search engine can. A good partner promises clear work and clear reporting.
